World Languages are CEWL (Cool) at Camp Creek Middle School

World Language students at Camp Creek Middle School recently celebrated their first Cultural Emphasis on World Languages Week.  C.E.W.L (pronounced COOL) Week was a celebration of world language learning where the emphasis was put on the cultural aspect of the languages being studied (French and Spanish).  Each day was given a different cultural theme.  On Monday, guest speakers came to the school to speak to the students about their experiences in the target cultures.  Culturally rich movies were shown in each language during World Language classes on Tuesday.  On Wednesday, students toured the cultural gallery of various projects created by their classmates and themselves.  On Thursday, French and Spanish classes competed in a cultural trivia game in which the Spanish classes were deemed the champions and presented the C.E.W.L. Week trophy.  Finishing the week was “Food Day” on Friday.  Students brought in dishes from the cultures being studied and were able to taste a wide variety of different foods.  The World Language department at Camp Creek Middle School looks forward to celebrating C.E.W.L. week during the 2009-2010 school year!
