Langston Hughes High Seeking Students for Leadership Academy
The Fulton County School System announces the establishment of the Langston Hughes High School Leadership Academy. Students are being sought to participate in its inaugural class which debuts next fall at the newly opened Fairburn school.

The Leadership Academy is an academic offering within the school's career/technology program. While the Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (JROTC) leadership curriculum serves as a foundational model, admission into the program is open to any high school student. The academy's goal is to help students build a strong knowledge base of self discovery and leadership skills that are applicable to many leadership and managerial situations.

Ideal candidates are those who are compassionate and ethical, and who pride themselves on modeling leadership qualities and identifying themselves as leaders. The program is committed to the development of scholar-leaders who are prepared to make positive contributions to the school, community and nation.

Philosophically, the Leadership Academy believes that leadership is a process that parallels and compliments learning. The academy will focus on providing students with world-class leadership and learning opportunities through a variety of project-based learning, service learning and leadership development activities.

Students interested in participating must develop a single page scholar-leader profile using PowerPoint and submit an essay by March 31. Additional program information, as well as specific instructions for applying, is located at http://www.lhleadershipacademy.com/  or by contacting the school system's Director of Army Instruction, Lt. Col. Nicolette Wheeler, at WheelerN@fultonschools.org or Lt. Col. Travis Heard at HeardT@fultonschools.org.

Students from other Fulton County high schools who are interested in applying to the leadership academy, and therefore become a student at Langston Hughes High School, must submit a curriculum hardship transfer application by March 1. More information on the transfer application process is available by contacting the Fulton County Schools' Student Assignment Office at 404-763-6801 or www.fultonschools.org/dept/studentplacement.
