Annexation
The easy way out may be to let Atlanta, East Point, Union City and others annex all of the unincorporated land There are five ways to annex: 1. The 100% method in which all property owners petition for annexation; 2. The 60% method under which 60% of the property owners in an area petition for annexation; 3. Annexation by referendum by which a group petitions an annexation to referendum (this has only occurred once in the state’s history when Roswell did it in 2000); 4. Annexation by legislation under which the Georgia General Assembly creates an annexation; and 5. Annexation of unincorporated islands under which a city, at its sole discretion, annexes the island within 30 days of notifying the property owner of the intent to annex. For more information on annexation see the Georgia Municipal Association annexation publication Growing Cities, Growing Georgia: A Guide to Georgia's Annexation Law
Union City continues annexations
For what appears to be for business use Matt Ornstein is seeking to have 3 tracts of land annexed into Union City. 91.5 acres on McClure Road and Jones Road, 50.1 acres on Cedar Grove Road and 199.63 acres on Cedar Grove Road. In addition, R. Srouji's annexation request was presented to the Board of Commissioners by Union City for 4.2 acres along Flat Shoals Road. |
